Why did you want to get involved with DETENTION?
Gary’s production COAL was the first contemporary dance I’d ever seen. I was hooked right away and again when I saw the sequel WASTELAND. I’d supported the Miners’ strike with passion and as an out and proud, working-class gay man, the mining families in turn became active in defending the LGBT+ community, particularly around AIDS/ HIV.

Section 28 was despicable and vindictive, premised on nothing more than naked homophobia. I love Gary’s commitment to defending working-class community and brilliance.
