El Perry is a dancer and choreographer, whose main work is co-directing queer dance theatre company Thick & Tight with Daniel Hay-Gordon. The company creates a mix of dance, mime, theatre, satire and drag, taking influence from a wide range of historical, political, literary and artistic subjects. Thick & Tight aim to open up restrictive and elitist ideas of ‘artistic excellence’ and to explore dance as a political art form with the power to entertain while challenging social stigma. The company’s work has been presented extensively in the UK, including at Sadler’s Wells, Tate, Barbican, Southbank, V&A, Lowry and Royal Ballet and Opera, and at many festivals internationally, as well as in LGBTQ+ venues, nightclubs and community centres across the country. As a dancer, El has worked regularly for Gary Clarke Company, as well as for Jules Cunningham, Lea Anderson, Clod Ensemble, Russell Maliphant and Nigel Charnock.
