GARY CLARKE COMPANY is offering a unique opportunity for 5 members of the LGBT+ community to make their own contribution to DETENTION and the national tour in 2025. DETENTION follows the multi-award winning COAL and critically acclaimed WASTELAND.
We are looking for 5 members of the LGBT+ community aged 40+ to take to the stage alongside our cast of exceptional performers in this bold and moving portrayal of the remarkable resilience of the individuals and organisations of the time (5 local people recruited for each tour venue).
Ryan and SuMay were community cast members during the spring tour of DETENTION. They said of their experiences:

I knew DETENTION involved dance and a queer cast, but I was not expecting camaraderie, hugging, connection, a buddying system, love, genuine care of our feelings and fantastic documentation. We were asked to trust in the process and Gary Clarke Company delivered. Will miss every single one of the team. Thank you for your kindness and generosity of spirit, what an amazing bunch of people to work with.”
The role will involve simple movements and some choreography within certain sections of the show. Gary Clarke Company is committed to providing opportunities to people with limited access to the arts, and therefore no professional performance or stage experience is essential. Each participant will receive a food and local travel allowance to cover rehearsals and performances.

Anybody interested should register to attend a taster. The taster is a chance to meet Gary Clarke and find out more about Gary Clarke Company, Detention and the community cast’s involvement in the show. An informal gathering with refreshments and an opportunity to connect with others.
